Things You Need to Know When Traveling to St. Lucia

Passports & immigration

We strongly recommend that all members of your party travel with a passport with a validity date of at least six months past the date of your departure from the island. For information on obtaining or renewing a passport you can visit http://travel.state.gov/passport/index.html. In our current times, passports are the most expeditious and reliable form of identification when traveling domestically or internationally.

Flying times from major cities

• 3-1/2 hours from Miami
• 4 hours from New York
• 5 hours from Toronto
• 8 hours from London

From the United States

US Airways offers nonstop weekend service from Philadelphia and BWIA flies weekly from Miami and New York. American Eagle flies daily to and from Puerto Rico into George Charles Airport. Air Jamaica offers weekly services to and from New York with connections to at least seven other American destinations. From London Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and BWIA fly direct from London. Air Jamaica flies to the United Kingdom via its Montego Bay Hub.

From Canada

Air Canada offers a nonstop weekly service from Toronto, Canada. From other Caribbean islands Caribbean Star offers extensive service.

Airports

• Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort is located 40 miles south of Castries
• George Charles Inter Island Airport is just outside Castries

Airport departure tax

There is a Departure Tax of US$26 for all passengers over 12 years of age leaving St. Lucia.

Airport transfers

Taxis are readily available from the Hewanorra airport. Ask your Elite Island Resorts travel professional if your package includes airport transfers.

Personal safety

St. Lucia is relatively crime free, but exercise normal precautions; i.e. don't leave valuables unattended in rental cars or on the beach. Place your valuables and travel documents in your room safe. Keep your guest room doors and windows locked, especially at night and when you are not in the room.
